Early morning fog lifted to reveal a few overnight visitors. This was taken in October, so they were probably on their way south, just stopped for a rest on our beach. 03/17/23

Hot summer days

Windy days

I love days of wind and waves, I spend hours and hours just sitting on the beach with my camera. Seems so far away now, when I think of the lake, covered with 3 feet of ice. We've got a long way to go! 03/14/23

I do love shadows in winter, they are so strong and stretch so beautifully across the snow. Summer shadows are never as dramatic. 03/09/23

Snowmobiling season is coming to an end.

Which is a good thing! It means winter will soon be on the way out. And because I'm not a 'snowmobiler', I don't miss it at all. lol (I know the power poles are distracting in the background, but this really is just a snapshot, so I decided to leave them.) 03/08/23

Lately Baxter has discovered the joy of completely burying himself in the snow. He does it while he's playing, so it's hard to catch a shot, but I did manage a quick one here - as he is bounces up from 'hiding' under the snow. Funny guy. Strange dog. lol 03/07/23

The woodpile vs the snowbanks

It's a competition between the woodpile and the snowbanks. As the woodpile gets higher, so does the snow. One more good dump of snow, and the woodpile looses. 03/04/23

A little Unknown flower (- that is not a Hellebore)

Thanks to fellow Smugger Terry Allen - who identified the tiny white flowers in my bouquet. I've never heard of Hellebores before but I really like them. They are very pretty and delicate, and lasted almost as long as the carnation, which is quite remarkable. Edit: sorry... apparently, according to Judy, this cannot be a Hellebore, so we are back to a little flower with a mysterious unknown name, lol. 03/03/23

My Wolf Willow seed necklace

These are the beautiful little seeds that are hiding in the silvery seed pods of yesterday's photo of the Wolf Willow. I made necklaces and bracelets for my girls for Christmas presents, and kept a couple for myself, lol. Each seed pod had to be opened up, the mushy green covering scraped off, then cleaned and sanded to bring out the pretty coloured stripes, then soaked for a few hours so they were soft enough to drill a hole through the centre. Luckily, I pursuaded Terry to help - I could never have managed the drill, these seeds are tiny! Another lovely gift from my beautiful Prairie. I wonder what else I will find there.... 02/24/23

Wolf Willow berries, sometimes called Silverberry

These pretty little berries are abundant in the fall, found on waist high shrubs, often hiding amongst beautiful silvery leaves. Inside there is a surprise - very hard, pretty seeds, that were used by First Nations people as sacred beads. Tomorrow I'll show you what I made with them. 02/23/23

The end result

Creating the lotion and the label is half the fun - the other half is having something nice to give to friends and family. (My girls love them!) I've been making lotions for several years now, after I realized how many toxic chemicals and ingredients are added to all the commercial skin care products. I find it quite comforting to know exactly what it is I am putting on my skin, and that it is completely chemical free and nourishing. 02/21/23
