I bought a few poppies this year... they are still waiting to be planted. I should be able to get them in this weekend - all the folks that know about gardening say 'don't plant until after June 1st'. Even then we can still get frost, but it's unlikely. Clearly this little plant is ready for its forever home. :) 05/31/23
They look so pretty in the spring, gently blowing in the wind. But then they turn into 'fluff' which is a different story altogether, and I don't appreciate them quite so much. lol It's mind blowing to realize that inside each tiny seed is a 50 foot tree - how exactly does that work? 05/30/23
They've taken possession of the newest single family dwelling, but there's been quite a battle with the Purple Martins - who seem to think all real estate belongs to them. A few days ago, we were sitting around the fire with some friends, when a fight between the Tree Swallow and a male Purple Martin broke out, right above our heads. The Tree Swallow chased the Martin and then slammed him right into the ground, about 2 feet away from us! It was quite shocking, and unfolded so quickly we barely knew what was happening. Fortunately, no harm was done and hopefully everyone now knows, without a doubt, what belongs to whom! 05/29/23
