Still standing, straight and solid. Built when the Icelanders first settled on Hecla Island in the 1870"s. Originally they were sheep farmers who lost their land in Iceland due to volcanic activity, but they soon discovered the riches of Lake Winnipeg and became successful fishermen. They became known as the 'Vikings on a Prairie Ocean'. 11/09/22
Last week we drove north to spend the day on Hecla Island on Lake Winnipeg. It was a windy day, so I spent way too much time 'shooting the waves', one of my favourite ways to spend the day. We were hoping to spot some wildlife before the snow comes and all the trails are closed, but we had no luck at all. The geese have all moved further south by now and all the other wild ones were just hiding from the wind, I suppose. 11/07/22
Three of the five have the same wing action, I thought that was kinda cool. :) 11/06/22
