After the Prairie Crocus comes this little guy - so teeny tiny, you have to search to find him. They are quite clever by growing underneath last year’s long grasses, hugging the ground to find what little warmth there is in the early spring and to find protection from overnight frost. I believe it’s called a Whorl-leaved Loofestrife, a member of the Primrose family and as far as I can tell, they are quite rare in our area so I am always thrilled to find them and welcome them back. 05/19/20

Yesterday morning, the tree swallows returned - it was wonderful to see them arrive! As we sat with our morning coffee on the deck, on the first warm sunny morning of the year… the sky was suddenly filled with their amazing swallow flight! There was 20 or more in the air, swooping over the lake and the treetops, for about an hour, then they gradually disappeared leaving this pair already moving in to their last year’s home. Exciting times for both us and the birds! 05/17/20
