More apples waiting in the sink… there always seems to be more in the line-up! This reminds me of 'dunking for apples' in a big wood barrel at all the small town fairs when I was a kid, anyone else remember that? 10/03/20 www.jmcqueenphoto.com
My family’s favourite dessert - Apple Crisp. This is the reason we have apple trees! So that we can have an unlimited supply of hot Apple Crisps… something everyone expects when they come to my house. Traditionally, we add a big dollop of vanilla ice cream which then melts in a most appealing way, all over the topping and the apples, but…. because we are all worried about expanding waistlines, we’ve had to forego the extra calories. And surpisingly found that we don’t really need it anyway! 10/02/20
Not the greatest photo, but I hope you can see two vacuum sealed bags. On the left are the apples that have been cored, peeled and chopped and are ready for the freezer, (I use them for baking). On the right are the apples that have been sliced and cored, and then dried for about 24 hours in our food drier. They are stored in the cupboard and can last all winter (except that they do seem to disappear long before winter is over, lol). We froze about 15 bags of sliced apples and have about 10 bags of dried apples, which doesn’t sound like all that much, but it really is quite a lot of work. Some of you were wondering what we use for juicing our apples - we have an Omega Juicer and we peel and core them with a little ‘hand powered’ peeler from Lee Valley. Thanks for your interest in our apples, and thanks so much for all your views and comments - all greatly appreciated every single day. 10/01/20
