A wind blown Purple Martin (I think), please correct me if I am wrong. They arrived ‘en masse’ a couple of days ago and now they spend the day squabbling over whose house belongs to whom. It’s funny how important real estate becomes when you are anxious to get your family started :)) 05/21/20
Trees in the forest are messy and very untidy and I love that wildness. Then the leaves arrive and the forest becomes lush and green and oh! so beautiful and that wonderful untamed nature of the forest remains a secret til autumn. 05/20/20
After the Prairie Crocus comes this little guy - so teeny tiny, you have to search to find him. They are quite clever by growing underneath last year’s long grasses, hugging the ground to find what little warmth there is in the early spring and to find protection from overnight frost. I believe it’s called a Whorl-leaved Loofestrife, a member of the Primrose family and as far as I can tell, they are quite rare in our area so I am always thrilled to find them and welcome them back. 05/19/20
