Not the greatest photo, but I hope you can see two vacuum sealed bags. On the left are the apples that have been cored, peeled and chopped and are ready for the freezer, (I use them for baking). On the right are the apples that have been sliced and cored, and then dried for about 24 hours in our food drier. They are stored in the cupboard and can last all winter (except that they do seem to disappear long before winter is over, lol). We froze about 15 bags of sliced apples and have about 10 bags of dried apples, which doesn’t sound like all that much, but it really is quite a lot of work. Some of you were wondering what we use for juicing our apples - we have an Omega Juicer and we peel and core them with a little ‘hand powered’ peeler from Lee Valley. Thanks for your interest in our apples, and thanks so much for all your views and comments - all greatly appreciated every single day. 10/01/20
The first thing we do with the apples is - make apple juice. It’s just SO delicious - foamy and sweet with just a hint of tangy bitterness. And packed full of Vitamin C. It freezes well, you just have to be careful not to fill the jars to the top and then handle with care when you take them out of the freezer. Delicious for breakfast all winter long. 09/30/20
We’ve picked all the apples we can use, and then some. And still there are more! Over the next couple of days, I’ll show you what we’ve done with them so they don’t go to waste. 09/29/20 www.jmcqueenphoto.com
