Last year I don’t think I saw one honey bee. This year, I’ve already seen quite a few, both at home & at the lake, so I am hoping (heartfelt hoping!) that their population is on the increase. (I played with a few photoshop brushes to blur the distractions a bit.) 06/21/19
With many thanks to our friend E. (Arctangent) we are now (almost) certain that this is an American Lady. (Gotta love that name!) The details are a little easier to see on this shot… It’s been a wonderful couple of days with our back yard teeming with beautiful American Ladies. I’m hoping they stay for awhile, at least until the lilacs are done. 06/21/19
Yesterday we had an invasion of butterflies on our lilacs. At first I thought they were Monarchs, but they were much smaller and less showy. As far as I can tell, (after a brief & frustrating internet search) this is a Vicerory butterfly. This was one of those time when I longed for the right lens. I try not to get all caught up in the photographic ‘gear’, and mostly I enjoy whatever it is that I have with me in the moment… but there are times when the right lens can make all the difference between catching the vision & feeling that the opportunity was missed. Maybe… by the next time they flutter through my back yard, I will have that telephoto lens that’s been lurking on my wish list for so long! Many thanks for all your comments & critiques, they are all greatly appreciated. 06/19/19
