Our deer feeder is busy now, because of all the new snow. We don’t give them much, just a few oats every day to help them through the winter. It’s important that they get most of their diet from natural foraging for tree bark & grass so they don’t become dependent on we… undependable …humans.
This year, things are shaping up a little differently. Apparently we have one very clever Mama deer who had 3 babies last spring, and she arrives very early (around 4 every afternoon), with the triplets, and they clean up everything long before any of the others arrive.
I’m not sure what to do about this. Sometimes I run out and fill it up again if I see the rest of the gang (about 7 or 8 of them) arrive, because it upsets me so much that they are getting absolutely nothing…!! But then what happens is, if Mama & the Triplets are still there, they race up, chase the others away and will really stuff themselves with a second feeding … not good at all….
So… that’s the biggest drama in my life these days. I’m counting myself lucky & grateful. And very grateful for you guys & all your comments… :)
