As promised…. here is what I found in the Robin’s nest on June 11. It’s really not a great shot - I hope you can make out 2 little faces, & 4 little bodies. Be prepared -they are not the cutest faces you’ve ever seen … :-) I could have made more of an effort to get a better photo of the little guys, but I didn’t want to disturb them, so I just slipped in really quickly, shot & left. It was the first time I’d been back since I saw the eggs, and quite frankly… I was surprised to find them there. I stopped by the nest yesterday (June 14) so I could give you an update - and found the nest completely empty. I’m trying to feel positive about that, but I find it difficult to believe that they were able to leave the nest 3 days after I took this pic. Although, on a happy note, the nest was intact, no sign of invasion anywhere, so I’m choosing to believe that they are up in the trees above, figuring out this flying thing… 06/15/19
We probably all know that robins may be the least fussy of all birds about where they build their nests. I can’t figure out how there can be so very many robins when they are such poor (& risky) homebuilders. So.. this nest was built on a boat hitch. Not only can everyone in the neighbourhood plainly see it, including all the local dogs, cats & foxes, but now no one can move the boat or use it, until the home is vacated! I took this pic on May 20, tomorrow I’ll show you what was in the nest on June 11…. 06/14/19
