Soaking up the morning sunshine, probably trying to warm up a little bit. Thanks for your thoughts on our ravens vs the sparrows yesterday, very much appreciated. I am quite relieved to know that they are not responsible for our diminishing sparrow numbers. More likely they have found a more sheltered feeder in the neighbourhood, much warmer for them to be out of the wind. 12/07/19
Our hardy little House Sparrows keep us company all winter long. Along with a few chickadees and the bossy bluejays, the sparrows remind us why we need bird song in the air, every single day. A question for our expert birders…. are ravens only scavengers or do they hunt small birds as well? We always have ravens throughout the winter, but this year they are here in greater numbers and our sparrow population seems to be diminishing rapidly and the winter has only just begun. I’m hoping that’s because the sparrows have found a better ‘restaurant’ in the neighbourhood, although I think we provide a pretty decent buffet here… :) Just a thought (that I don't want to have, actually), hope you can help me with it. 12/06/19
