Hummingbird in the sprinkler (by janet)
My first shot of a female Ruby Throated Hummingbird. She was having a wonderful time bathing in the water from the sprinkler, zipping back and forth through the spray and then lighting on the trees for just a moment to flutter her wings and then back into the water she would go. I know it’s not the sharpest shot and not nearly up to the high standards here on Daily Photos, but I’m pretty happy with it anyway….. :)) 08/15/20
Taking a break (by janet)
I’ve rarely seen a Hummingbird sitting quietly on a branch, like this one. I think she was just enjoying the moment and the coolness of the water from the sprinkler. Thanks so much for your comments, I appreciate each and every one! 08/16/20

The adult Cedar Waxwings were always close by, keeping a watchful eye on the youngsters as they played in the water, but it was difficult to spot them. They are so good at hiding in the trees. I finally got a quick shot of this handsome fellow, I think it’s a male. Apparently the males & females have similar coloration, but the male has black feathers on his chin…. which I think I see here. I’m interested to see what our resident experts have to say…. 08/19/20
Sibling Rivalry? (by Janet)
I thought this shot was just so cute, I had to share it with you. These two jeuvenile Cedar Waxwings are obviously siblings - there were 4 of them that seemed to be together, you can just see a third one faintly in the background. More fun in the sprinkler water… hope you are not getting tired of them yet, I have more to come! 08/18/20
Babies in the sprinkler (by Janet)
We had a lovely surprise when several families of Cedar Waxwings arrived to bathe in the sprinkler. The youngsters were so cute, literally squabbling with each other for the best spots in the spray. Always there were several adults keeping watch and even they would induldge in a quick shower every once in awhile. 08/17/20 My website: www.jmcqueenphoto.com
Mr. & Ms. Cedar Waxwing by janet
At least I am assuming they are a couple. I don’t think there is much difference between the male & female, so they could be a pair. We have many nesting Cedar Waxwings at the lake, but they are so shy it’s tricky to photograph them. I love how they are all about ‘family’ and are always with their flock, even tree to tree and sometimes branch to branch, they are always together. 06/26/20
Female Baltimore Oriole? by janet
I’m guessing here, can you help me out? Thanks for your help and thank you so much for all your comments & critiques, I appreciate your efforts so very much! 07/17/20
What the Oriole loves (by Janet)
the humans do not. So far this summer we have had a ‘bug of the week’. Seriously crazy year for bugs! A different variety every week or two, they seem to peak and then disappear. The disappearing we like, the peaking - not so much. The fish flies were so thick, they actually drove us home. At least the birds are happy and extremely well fed this year! 06/28/20
Evening stop for one last drink
The Robins are our most popular visitors to the fountain. They seem to absolutely love it. 07/09/21
Female Blue Winged Teal by janet
I’ve never noticed these pretty ducks before - but this year we have at least 3 pairs, possibly more. This image may not be all that sharp, but I like the way she looks in the water …. 06/08/20
Departure by Janet
When you always have an energetic dog with you, it makes it a little tough to get wildlife shots. Shelby soon had the Blue Winged Teals up in the air, but they just circled around and landed not far away, so they must have a nest very close by. I will definitely be back, looking for the babies. 06/09/20
