My Paintings

This gallery is very special - these are my digital paintings. Hidden in each and every one is my blood, sweat and tears (& I mean that literally - well, maybe not the blood but most certainly there is no shortage of sweat & tears!). I am currently using Painter 2021 (Corel), Rebelle 4 (watercolour painting), Procreate on the iPad and Photoshop (mostly for adding the finishing touches).

Mountains from imagination
This is from a very slim sketch given to us by our teacher at Digital Art Academy. She walked us through the painting & I followed as best I could, but of course, mine looks altogether different than hers. This took over a month to complete, but in the end I feel it's worth it.

Beach Walk
Started with a photograph of our beach in late September, although I followed the original sketch, it's still done much from my imagination and with some new brushes that I was trying to master.

Winter Solstice
I have signed up for classes at the Digital Art Academy and I am finally learning to paint! It's been a life long dream & definitely part of my love of photography is a deep desire to paint... and now, here I am ... doing it! And actually being happy with this result!

This is done entirely from scratch, on my Wacom Mobile Studio tablet, following a teaching tutorial. I plan to try it again but not right now as already another class has started and I am scrambling to catch up with that.

It's indisputable that tulips are even more lovely in February... so I had to buy a big bunch for my kitchen table. And then, of course, I had to try to paint them. Whether or not the outcome is as I had imagined it to be ... it's so much fun to try!

Window into spring
Another attempt at abstracts from my online class... this time a 'grid' compositional style. I have decided I am not good with abstracts at all, but I am learning a lot about colour as I struggle along with the lessons.

Wetlands, water & sand
Abstract in the 'Z' or 'S' composition, had a lot of fun with colours & contrast in this one....

Mountains under a stormy sky
More fun doodling in Rebelle... the sky just happened, by putting lots of water on the digital canvas, adding a little colour, and then just tilting it this way and that, and watching what happens. It just turned into a sky, all by itself!

This is a photograph with textures added. I printed this on a lovely photo rag paper - it turned out better than I'd hoped! (and that just never happens!)

The gnarly old lady who lives at the top of the hill
I love this old tree - she is a survivor and the only one still standing amoungst the scrubby bushes on the top of a hill. (A painting from a photography done with Corel Painter).

Spent an incredible amount of time on that purple flower but just did not like it, found it too distracting. So the version I like best does not have it included at all. (Painted Aug.'16)

How I made a Painting
A little video of the paintings I saved as I struggled to make this painting of Shelby wearing a Christmas wreath. It was a strange photo and the painting looked even stranger, so although the video is included in the gallery, the finished painting is not. Maybe I should add it anyway....

Merry Christmas Shelby again
After working on this painting for (what seemed like) months...!! I finally realized it didn't look right because her head was way too big. But I just could not figure out what to do about that, because that's the way the photo was shot. Oh well ... I am hoping for a nice Christmas portrait someday...
